Made by Royal Cast Collection, SMK
Copy in plaster transferred form the Royal Academy of Art in 1897, made on an antique, Roman copy of a lost, Greek original in the Classical Style. The snake refers to Aesculapius, god of Medicine who together with Minerva guards the olive groves. The sphinx on her helmet may refer to her Egyptian origin. Athena may not have had as white a complexion as a plaster cast make us presume.
A plaster cast in the Royal Cast Collection of SMK, the National Gallery of Denmark, scanned in 3D. SMK publishes the scan with the Public Domain Mark: no known copyright. SMK does not endorse ModelsXi.
