How we check every file
A 3D model should never be a way to slip something onto your computer. Before any file is listed on ModelsXi, it goes through these checks. A file that fails is not listed.
- 1
The licence, at the source
We only take free models whose licence lets anyone share them (CC0, or public domain for museum works), and we read the licence where the maker published it. The model page links back there.
- 2
A malware scan
Every file, and every file inside a ZIP, is scanned with ClamAV before it is listed.
- 3
No programs or scripts
Downloads may only hold 3D models, textures and short text files. A download with programs, installers or scripts is turned down, and extras such as the maker's web page and shortcuts are left out. Blender files can run Python scripts when they open, so we do not offer .blend files yet.
- 4
Opened and measured
Every GLB is opened and checked with the Khronos glTF Validator. A model that would load anything from the internet is turned down, and textures that sit beside a model are packed into it, so each GLB works on its own. The triangle counts, materials, textures, animations and sizes on each page come from the files themselves, not from a description.
- 5
A fingerprint for every file
Each file's SHA-256 fingerprint is on its page, so you can confirm the file you have is the one we checked.
